Welcome to Young Farmers

Public Speaking Competition Day

Yesterday was the first main day of competitions in the new Young Farmer year. The public speaking, ballroom dancing and member of the year competitions were held at Droitwhich High School. Wythall YFC had another succesfull day with members putting in a lot of time and effort in to their competition preparation. First up was the intermediate just a minute where members had to talk for a minute on stage without any hesitation or repetition. If someone does hesitate or repeate themselves then another competitor could object to the judge and if successful gain a point and take over the talking. The competition once again proved to be hilarious with one of Wythall's male members claiming to be the 'King of Fashion'!! The team put in a great effort coming 4th.

Next was the turn of the senior mace debating team. Topics that we had to debate included assisted euthanasia, animal captivity and the legal driving age. Although we were not placed the team learnt a lot with members developing confidence and new found skills such as voice projection and thinking on their feet whilst debating on stage in front of a crowd.

This year Rebecca represented Wythall YFC in the Miss YFC member of the year competition. This competition included having to complete a synopsis form detailing their activities within and thoughts on YFC, and an interview. Rebecca finished 4th, only three points behind the winner.

Finally it was the turn of the ballroom dancers! Who knew that Young Farmers could dance?!? We certainly didn't! After a lot of toe treading and stumbling we had cobbled together what slightly resembled a Foxtrot, Paso Doble, Viennese Waltz and a Jive. Although it went slightly to pot on the day we were good enough to come 3rd! Quite the achievement for people that have never had a dance lesson in their life!

So a very busy day of competitions is complete! We are now looking forward to our club's Christmas meal and the New Year.
