Press Release:

One of Worcestershire’s biggest rural events of the year takes place next week when the county’s young farmers' clubs holds their annual County Show.

More than 400 members, aged from 10 to 26, will be battling it out at the 69th annual Worcestershire Young Farmers County Show in competitions ranging from YFC Bake Off to tractor handling, floral art, Maypole dancing, dressing up as Countryfile presenter Adam Henson and stand-up comedy.

Members of the public are invited to come along to Berrowsfield Farm in Inkberrow to watch 10 clubs fighting it out to claim the organisation’s most prestigious annual prize, the Show Championship Cup.

People will also get the chance to look around various craft exhibits, which members spend weeks painstakingly putting together, and watch some of the region's best tug of war teams going head to head during the afternoon.

Plenty of food and drink will also be on offer at what is the organisation's biggest rural youth community event of the year.

Worcestershire Young Farmers County Chairman Will Parry is hoping this year’s event will be better than ever.

“With around 500 people coming to see our members in action last year, we are hoping this year will pull in even bigger crowds,” he said.

“For our members this is a chance to showcase their skills in a competitive environment so that they can have a go at putting what they’ve learnt at club events during the previous 12 months into practice.

“There are many of our members that have built careers out of taking part in such events.”

Fellow joint-show chair Phil Maiden added: “I owe my career in radio to this organisation as I was first spotted having a go at producing and presenting my own programme at a County Show competition 12 years ago. You will be glad to know it was an event my club won!

“I hope other members can gain from their successes the way I did.”

The County Show is open to the public from 10:00 on Saturday, 20 May 2017.

Around 500 members of the public attended last year's event.

The 10 clubs in Worcestershire are Abberley, Bromsgrove, Crowle, Cutnall Green, Vale of Evesham, Inkberrow, Martley, Tenbury Wells, Upton upon Severn, Wythall.

There are 63 competitions which count towards the Show Championship Cup including the pre-show stockjudging events which took place on the weekend of 29 and 30 April.

Entry to the show for members of the public costs just £5.

Members of the press are invited to attend the show, to make arrangements or for more information please contact joint-show chairman Phil Maiden on 07701 019 680.
